Van Slams Into Mineo's Pizza In Oakwood

OAKWOOD (KDKA)- Police are investigating a crash, where a van slammed into Mineo's Pizza in Oakwood.

It happened Sunday afternoon at the restaurant in the Noble Manor Shopping Center along Noblestown Road.

"It looked like he backed up, hit a car, knocked it sideways," said witness Audrey Schroder. "He then pulled forward and it looked as though his foot may have been stuck on the gas and he sped up."

The van slammed into the front window of Mineo's.

"We watched him get into the van. My staff observed him behind the driver's seat and they actually commented on why this guy was driving," Eggs R Us owner John Pasqualino said. "Literally, two minutes later, we hear a crash and a boom and the van is halfway inside Mineo's."

A police spokesperson says the driver simply lost control. The manager of the pizza shop was in a front office and received moderate injuries when the van crashed through. Luckily, no customers were in Mineo's at the time.

The front counter of the shop was knocked loose and it's unclear when the restaurant will reopen.

The driver of the van was assisted on scene by medics. Witnesses say he appeared to be coherent, but also seemed to be in shock.

Schroder says the man was inside Blinkey's Noble Grill and Bar and had lunch. She said he was not drinking. He was parked in a handicapped spot.

There is no word if the driver will face charges.
