Local Bodybuilder Competing For Magazine Cover

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- She's a mom, she's a grandma, and Wednesday night, a Shaler woman is competing against women across the country and world to make it on the cover of a well-known magazine.

If she wins, she will also receive thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. She wants to use a portion of the money to donate to a local organization.

Her name is Rebecca Eger -- a 47-year-old single mother of two, a grandmother and a fitness fanatic. She's competing to be on the cover of Jetset Magazine, a lifestyle magazine that has featured well-known celebrities over the years. If she wins, she says she wants to give back to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since her family has been touched by cancer.

For Rebecca, exercising is a big part of her life, with the exception of her two kids and grandson. She's a professional bodybuilder and competitor. And now, she's using her passion of health and fitness to become Miss Jetset 2015.

"I'm in the gym training six days a week," she said. "I plan on competing next year."

Eger says someone reached out to her about the competition. At first, she didn't think she stood a chance.

"I saw some of the competitors from previous years and saw they were really young and emailed them back and said I didn't think I was in the age category they thought I was in to compete in something like that," she said.

Turns out, she was. She beat out 80 competitors in Pennsylvania and is now in second place amongst 51 contestants competing for the chance to be on the cover of Jetset Magazine.

Thursday at midnight, the competition narrows down to the top 25. The winner is selected based on the number of votes. In addition to being on the cover of the magazine, the winner receives $50,000 in cash and $50,000 worth of prizes.

"$10,000 of it, I do plan to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society," she said. "I'm hoping to have some companies that are going to be matching that for me."

Leukemia has been a part of Eger's family for several years.

"My son's father has leukemia," she said. "My step-mother's brother also passed away from leukemia about four weeks ago. Didn't even make it through one round of chemo."

She also wants to use her healthy lifestyle as a way to inspire others.

"My age, in forties, a lot of times women give up, men give up," she said. "They feel it's too late or they can't do it. I'm just out there to prove you can."

The competition ends on December 10th.
