Washington Co. Woman Asks Police To Crack Down On Neighborhood Speeding

WASHINGTON COUNTY (KDKA) -- A local woman says out of control drivers are crashing into her cars, and Thursday night, she's asking police to step in and crack down.

Sheila Wheeler of West Alexander, in Washington County, is frustrated and angry after the latest property damage accident outside her home. Last weekend, a driver smashed into her husband's parked truck and her grandson's car. Both vehicles were parked across the street from where they live.

No one was hurt, but Wheeler's husband followed the man after the accident and was able to track him down. Police later charged the hit and run driver with DUI.

Wheeler complains that there have been no less than 10 property damage accidents involving either her family's cars or neighbor's vehicles because drivers speed through the neighborhood.

The posted speed limit in the area is 25 mph.

Wheeler said, "It's speed all the time, it's constantly speed. What's it's going to take, a fatality?"

Wheeler thinks more police patrols in the neighborhood would help cut down on the speed problem.

Donegal Twp. Police patrol West Alexander, but the department normally has one officer per shift, and he covers an area of about 50 square miles.
