Pennsylvania Attorney General Ups Ante In Porn Scandal

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania Senate is closer to a vote to remove the state's top prosecutor as she raises the possibility that she'll seek criminal charges in a scandal involving public officials exchanging explicit or offensive emails.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane's announcement came hours after a Pennsylvania Senate committee said Wednesday that it will ask the full chamber to consider removing Kane from office.

Kane is running her office with a suspended law license and is fighting perjury and obstruction charges for allegedly leaking secret investigative material to a newspaper and lying under oath about it.

Senators still must vote on whether to start a formal process that could result in Kane's removal. The committee rejected Kane's argument that the Senate lacks the authority.

Kane says she'll name prosecutors next week to investigate the scandal.
