Community, Fellow Officers Saying Goodbye To Fallen St. Clair Twp. Officer

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (KDKA) -- Friends, family and police from all over are saying goodbye to a local officer who was killed in the line of duty last weekend while responding to a domestic dispute call in Westmoreland County.

Officer Lloyd Reed was shot while responding to a home on Ligonier Street in New Florence last Saturday night.

Mourners began to arrive at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Johnstown early Thursday to pay their final respects to Officer Reed who worked for the St. Clair Township Police Department.

"He was so kind and gentle," said Capt. Donald Hess, of St. Clair Township Police. "I've worked with or around him for the last five years, I have never once heard any complaint against him."

Capt. Hess heads up the department that Officer Reed died serving. It has been one of the worst weeks of the police captain's life.

"It has been tough, but I'll say we're all hanging in there," said Capt. Hess.

Officer Reed was known as "Junior" to his friends, and you had to earn the right to call him that first.

"Not at first. At first he told me I could call him Lloyd. It took a little bit to get to know him before I got the permission to call him Junior," said Chief Adam Richards, of the Hooversville Police Department.

And Officer Reed was not only a pretty good cop, he could turn a wrench.

"Usually, when I would stop and see him he was working on his truck or his Monte Carlo," said Chief Richards. "Always in the garage."

But above all, he was a cop's cop and a good teacher.

"There will be no replacing him," said Capt. Hess.
