"Grinch" Steals Family's Outdoor Christmas Lights

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Juan Jaramillo lives on a quiet street in Monroeville with his wife and two young daughters.

He was shocked earlier this week when someone made off with part of his Christmas lights display, which he put up on his front yard fence.

In response, his wife posted a sign in their front yard saying: "To the person who stole our Christmas lights, thank you for breaking our two little girls' hearts. I hope you are proud of what you've done."

"I'm surprised that there's people that would do such a thing around this time of year," Jaramillo said. "It really is shameless."

On Wednesday, a neighbor stopped by the Jaramillo house and said he wanted to pay for a new set of lights.

Then, Thursday night, an official from Monroeville Mall visited the home, carrying bags of gifts, including two large stuffed bears, more Christmas lights, and even a small Christmas tree.

Kelly Rodacay, the mall's assistant general manager, said, "We feel we needed to be out there, doing some outreach, and it's fortunate that I spent today with Santa and he said there were two sad young ladies at this house."

The family was also given a special invitation to the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the Fisher-Price Kids Playground at the Monroeville Mall Friday morning.
