No Snow, No Dough: Ski Resorts Waiting To Open

SEVEN SPRINGS (KDKA) – Skiers and workers at Seven Springs are watching and waiting for snow.

Usually by now the resort and other ski resorts are covered in snow, but not this year.

Just a few patches of snow dot the slopes right now.

"The past few years obviously we haven't done that. We got El Nino holding off winter a little bit," Katie Buchan of Seven Springs says.

The only snow on the ground is from the resort's first round of snow making.

"We're waiting to go we're just waiting for that magic temp of 28 degrees," says Director of mountain operations Joel Rerko.

That's the golden degree the resort needs to start making snow again.

Jerry Gales of the Country Pie Shop would like to see white powder covering more than the jelly donuts in his shop.

His shop is a big stop for skiers heading up to spend weekends at condos.

"I think this is one of the worst years that we've had," Gales said.

It may be bad this year, but it's not the latest opening for the resort.

That came in 2001 when the lifts finally started moving skiers on December 22nd.

Officials say if they can get 28 degrees or lower, they should be able to make enough snow to open in about five days.
