Cops: Conniving Duo Steals $68K Christmas Stash From Man, 94

GREENSBURG (AP) - Police are searching for a conniving couple who stole $68,000 in Christmas cash that a 94-year-old Pennsylvania man had hidden in his dresser drawer.

Greensburg Police Chief Walter Lyons tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the money was stolen after the couple tricked the man into letting them into his home last Thursday.

The man and a teenage girl claimed to be there to discuss work the victim had done on the roof of his house four years ago. The victim went outside to inspect the roof with the man while the girl remained inside the house about 1 p.m.

The man tells police he noticed the money kept in a bank envelope in his dress was missing about four hours later.

The chief says the man planned to give the money to his children for Christmas.
