Suspect In Fatal Arnold Shooting Turns In Self

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The 18-year-old suspect wanted in connection to the fatal Arnold shooting from earlier this week turned himself in Thursday night.

Just two days after 51-year-old Donald Lee Williams was shot and killed during an altercation on Taylor Street, Erik Reed, Jr. surrendered to Arnold police. He turned himself in just 24 hours after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

"We had an officer that was working the case, and he was able to make contact with family members and talk with them, and at 7:30 last night, Erik Reed turned himself in to police," Arnold Police Chief Shannon Santucci-Davis said Friday.

Police say Williams' two teenage daughters had a long-standing feud with two other teenage girls, and a fight broke out Tuesday night involving up to 15 people. Williams, who lived nearby, tried to stop the fight, but he got into an altercation.

A witness told police she saw Reed walk up to Williams while he was struggling with another man and shoot him in the chest at close range.

"He came out here to stop it, and it just escalated," Donita Hutcherson, one of the victim's daughters, said Wednesday. "I don't even have words for the boy or whoever did it, no words at all."

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old family man is dead, and an 18-year-old is in jail. The Arnold police chief hopes the community learns a lesson from this tragedy.

"It's important that these young kids realize the fighting, the accusations and the name-calling and small altercations become very deadly," Santucci-Davis said, "and we just hope people come together and stop this nonsense. This violence has to stop."

Before the arrest, the police chief said she was worried about retaliation in the community, but now that a suspect is in custody, she hopes the community will have some peace.
