3 Women Fined For Abandoning Injured Dog On North Side

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Three women were fined for abandoning an injured dog earlier this year on the North Side.

The dog was left near a dumpster behind a 7-Eleven on Western Avenue in September. That location is less than a block away from the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.

The women were eventually found, and they were charged in October.

After reviewing surveillance video, it was determined that Rakia Abdullah and Ariel Abdullah left the dog. On Thursday, they were found guilty of two summary charges of abandonment and ill treatment.

Both received the maximum fine of $750 for each count.

The dog's owner, Troilynia Hicks was found guilty of ill treatment and was fined $150.

The women initially went to the Humane Society with the injured animal.

The shelter was closed, there was no medical staff, but a woman who was there for a training offered to take the dog or lead the two women to an emergency vet center.

By the time the woman got to her car, the women with the dog were gone.

It wasn't until the next morning that 7-Eleven employees discovered the animal.

The dog had to be euthanized due to its injuries.
