Connellsville Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Family Members Call Police

CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) - A bank robbery suspect's family turned him into police Wednesday night.

According to police, the robbery happened at the PNC Bank on Memorial Boulevard in Connellsville.

The suspect, 30-year-old Larry Knopsnider Jr., was armed when he entered the bank around 2:30 p.m.

Connellsville Police posted surveillance photos on their Facebook page shortly after the robbery. They received several leads about people that looked like Knopsnider.

However, it was a call from his own family that led to his arrest six hours after the robbery.

"His family ended up seeing the photos and one of the family members said, 'That's our relative,'" Connellsville Police Chief James Capitos said.

Chief Capitos said he doesn't believe Knopsnider really thought his plan through because he's a local and did little to disguise himself.

"it doesn't appear that it was very sophisticated and like I said, he just didn't hide his face very well at all," he said.

When he was handed the $4,000 in cash, Knopsnider took it and ran through neighborhoods where people recognized him.

He may be a familiar face back in jail as well as he was already on parole for burglary.

Knopsnider was arrested at his home and remains in the Fayette County Prison on $50,000 bond.
