Pittsburghers Taking Full Advantage Of Warm Winter Temperatures

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Christmas holiday is upon us, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

People were outside Wednesday in short sleeves and shorts, and we could see even more records fall this holiday week as the mild weather is expected to continue.

A kayaker on the lake in North Park, a jogger running shirtless, drivers with their windows rolled down, no snow or ice on the streets and kids on swings.

It looked like a nice spring day here in Pittsburgh, but this is winter in the Steel City. Not bad for Dec. 23.

"I don't think I've ever been able to walk around this time of year in a tee-shirt," said one woman.

"I'm enjoying abnormally beautiful weather in Pittsburgh this time of year," said another man.

Monday night winter rolled in, but you sure can't tell with temperature still hitting 60 degrees.

"First time in my life that it's ever been this high a temperature," said one man.

"The warm weather is awesome. It's great for washing cars, keeping them clean, there's no salt today. It's awesome," said a man at the car wash Wednesday afternoon.

Amanda Stone took full advantage of the unseasonably warm weather.

"I love this weather," she said. "It's my favorite kind of weather; I don't like cold weather."

Some fishermen out on the lake today said last December they had to drill a hole in the ice to fish, but not this year.

So for now, it looks like the road equipment and the heaping salt pile will sit idle, which gives you more time for holding hands while walking in the park.
