PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Lily and Ember can’t wait get to the dog park. But they and other canines in South Park seem to shun popular names.

Michelle gave her Bernese Mountain Dog the name “Nyla.”

The top female name is “Bella” in the suburbs of Allegheny County, and the nation. But the top male name here is “Buddy,” while America goes with “Max.”

As for a Barbet water dog visiting the park: “Thia. Her name’s Thia,” the co-owner says.

“Apparently, it’s popular in Sweden with dogs, so we just found it, and we liked it,” adds his wife.

Most popular breed? The Labrador retriever. Second in the suburbs is the Lab mix. Second on the national list is the German shepherd. Golden retrievers are third on both lists.

Dogs don’t mind the rain and mud of the dog park.

Sounds like a job for Woody’s Dog Wash, where the assistant has groomed many dogs named Bella.

But, she says, “For boys, it would definitely be Bailey.”
