DA: Revoke Bail For Ex-Coach Accused Of Sex With Player

MCCANDLESS (KDKA/AP) - Prosecutors are moving to revoke the bail of a former local high school basketball coach who allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old female player.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office says the conditions already imposed on ex-coach Cliff Foster are not enough to ensure the safety of the alleged victim.

The assistant district attorney went to court Thursday asking for the $20,000 bond to be revoked.

The 33-year-old was the head girls' varsity basketball coach at Pine-Richland High School. Allegations surfaced back in October that Foster engaged in sexual acts with one of his players.

"Yesterday, it came to our attention through CYF that there was an inappropriate relationship between a student and the varsity girls' basketball coach," said Chief Robert Amman, of Northern Regional Police, back in October.

After his arrest, Foster was ordered not to have any contact with the girl. But investigators say he called her several times on his sister's cell phone.

Police cite four to five text messages and three to four phone calls between the juvenile and Foster during a five-week period.

The motion also says Foster wrote the girl a letter that stated, 'I love you forever,' and gave her a silver necklace with a key medallion.

The girls' team played Thursday night at North Hills High School. Parents that KDKA talked to didn't want to comment on camera, but said they were saddened and outraged.

Foster had been held on a $20,000 bond, which he posted. There's no date yet for the hearing on the motion filed Thursday. He is charged with institutional sexual assault.

KDKA reached out to Foster's attorney and we haven't heard back.
