Report: Belle Vernon Man, 5 Others Arrested During Wild Card Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers came out on top in a wild finish to Saturday's Wild Card Game in Cincinnati.

Leading up to the game, both teams were warned to be on their best behaviors, but many didn't listen.

Players got into it on the field and so did fans.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, six fans were arrested at the stadium during the game.

Four of the fans were in Steelers gear, including 25-year-old David Grillo of Belle Vernon. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports he's accused of throwing beer at a fan's face during the game.

The fan did suffer some lacerations.

Grillo is facing assault charges.

The five others arrested in separate incidents also all face assault charges. Grillo was the only one from the Pittsburgh area.

Tom Squitieri, a native Pittsburgher now living in Washington DC, traveled to Cincinnati for Saturday's game and joined the KDKA Morning News to talk about what he saw.

Squitieri says walking to the stadium was "very pleasant" and that things didn't start to deteriorate until the third quarter.

"When the alcohol started flowing, then the game got tight," Squitieri said.

He says he saw a man attack a woman eight seats away from him.

"This guy, a Bengals fan, punched a woman in the face, a Bengals fan as well," Squitieri said.

Squitieri said as the game got closer to the end it got "very ugly," and that some fans were giving his 12-year-old son the middle finger.

Squitieri adds he was surprised when fans were throwing bottles and other debris at Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when he was injured, and that, "nothing was said over the loud speakers" to warn the crowd.
