Man In Custody After Hitting Pedestrian, Several Vehicles In Squirrel Hill

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Murray Avenue in the heart of Squirrel Hill was closed to traffic in the middle of a sunny Thursday afternoon.

Police say Jerome Mcclung, 31, was driving a Black Trailblazer that speeding through the intersection of Forbes and Murray. Kelly Grafton was an eyewitness.

"He hit an elderly woman, and she flew five feet into the air," she said.

Police say that 78-year-old woman was rushed taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in stable condition. But Mcclung kept going.

Within less than a half-mile, three more cars were hit along Murray avenue. It happened so fast there was little anyone could do. It was a close call for Grafton, who says she had just gotten out of her car.

Police say the driver ditched his SUV took off on foot. Police caught up with him a few blocks away in the 2700 block of Tilbury street. Police say he also had three bundles of heroin and a small bag of marijuana in his pockets. An additional nine bags of heroin were found near him.

Mcclung needed medical treatment so he was taken to the hospital before being booked. He faces charges a string of charges including drug possession and accident involving injury.
