Bond Revoked For Ex-Coach Accused Of Sex With Player

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A former girls' varsity basketball coach accused of engaging in sexual acts with one of his players has been ordered to jail.

This morning, Cliff Foster walked into the Allegheny County Courthouse under his own power, but he left being escorted by sheriff's deputies on his way to jail.

Foster was arrested and charged in November for alleged sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl on his Pine-Richland High School team.

Since then, prosecutors say Foster contacted the alleged victim numerous times, wrote a letter professing his love, gave her a silver necklace and communicated by way of calls from his sister to the alleged victim.

Investigators say the case developed when he stayed alone in motel rooms with the girl on basketball-related trips beginning in April. He and the girl allegedly carried on sexual contact until his arrest.

Earlier this month, the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office went to court to have Foster's $20,000 bond revoked. They said the conditions imposed on him were not enough to ensure the alleged victim's safety.

The defense argued he'd never make contact with the alleged victim again, but Judge Jill Rangos wasn't convinced.

"I can't see any way around revoking it," she said. "I can't put an ankle bracelet on him and stop him from making phone calls and writing letters. Bond is revoked."

With that, Foster went straight to jail.

At this point, Foster will stay in jail until his trial, which is scheduled for April.
