Report: Nutting Wants McCutchen To Be A Pirate For Life

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - It seems like since the day Andrew McCutchen signed his 6-year, $51.5 million contract, there has been talk about the Pirates signing him to another mega-deal once this one expires.

USA Today's MLB writer Bob Nightengale recently sat down with Pirates owner Bob Nutting to talk about the superstar's future with the team and many other topics.

According to Nightengale, Nutting said, "I'm not sure we're allowed to sign lifetime agreements, but I'd love to see him stay with us forever. He's been remarkable for the game, and for Pittsburgh, on-and-off-the field."

Nutting also talked about an important meeting the owners were having on Thursday that would discuss revenue sharing and the Pirates place at the table.

Nightengale joined Joe Starkey of the Starkey and Mueller Show to elaborate on his conversation with Nutting and what he heard came out of those owner meetings.

"I think it will definitely increase, the revenue sharing," Nightengale said.  "I think the luxury tax, maybe they do skip penalties for going over $189 million, maybe even drop it from $189 to go smaller just to make sure that more teams are paying because right now, it seems like the small market teams are getting even smaller."
