Person of Interest In Custody In Deadly Adams Township Shooting

ADAMS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – The victim, who has been identified by police, is about 25 years old but his name hasn't been released until his relatives can be notified.

Police have found a person of interest and say they're looking into the possibility that the shooting was drug related.

It was about 3:15 a.m. Friday when the body of the victim was found in front of an apartment building converted from an old church on Downieville Road in Adams Twp., Butler County.

"Looks like an apparent gunshot wound to the chest," said Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Thomas Dubovi. "That's what he succumbed to."

By afternoon, there was a 'be on the lookout' message over the police radio, officers looking for a suspect described as armed and dangerous.

By late afternoon he was in custody but has not yet been charged.

"He is with our investigators he is cooperating fully right now so that ['lookout' message] has been cancelled and we've also found the vehicle that we're looking for," Dubovi said.

"He's a person of interest at this point, not to play on words, but he is an involved party."

Weapons were located in a car and others are being questioned.

It's all pretty unusual in Adams Township, says Adams Twp. Asst. Chief Shawn Anglum.

"Last time we were called I think on this road was 2014," Anglum said.  "So I mean it is a very safe township . It really is. To the residents out there we're working with the Pennsylvania State Police. We're working very hard to find out and put this all together as to what exactly happened," he said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Pennsylvania state police.
