Music Legend Steven Tyler Gives Pittsburgh Fans Sample Of New Country Album

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler is used to taking a much bigger stage, but the intimate setting at the Y108 Studios allowed 40 lucky listeners to get up close and personal with a music legend.

Tyler was in Pittsburgh on Wednesday to talk about his new project, a country music album. Yes, country!

When you're known for high screams and rock anthems, the obvious question is: why country?

"I think one of the things that kept Aerosmith together for 40 years, and I owe my whole career to those guys and being in that band and creating the music that we did, was the diversity of the music," the music legend said.

The Pittsburgh fans in attendance got a private sampling.

"It was amazing. It's definitely going to be a hit record," said Tarra Klingensmith, of McKeesport.

"It was definitely surprising. Something you didn't think you'd hear that he was going to make the transition over. Glad he did," added Bill Klingensmith.

Tyler's father went to Julliard, and he says he grew up inspired by The Everly Brothers. He wanted to do a solo album, and this just seemed right.

"You always become a dartboard for people's fears, doubts and insecurities, and you can take it personally, but don't," he said. "I didn't with Aerosmith. We had a dream and we just kept it going."

Meeting Tyler was a dream for Rhonda Mucci of Monongahela. He even signed her book.

"Just to meet him and hug him and touch him and he kissed my cheek! It was awesome," she said. "He took my roses, signed my book. I'm gonna cry."

One thing Tyler says won't be changing is his signature Rock and Roll fashion. No cowboy boots and a hat in his future?

"Absolutely not," he said.
