Ex-Sto-Rox H.S. Coach Charged For Allegedly Using Suggestive Language About Teen

McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- A former coach at Sto-Rox High School, who was suspended after allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a female student surfaced, has now been charged.

William Griffin, 37, was an assistant coach for the girls' basketball team at the school. As soon as the school district learned about the incident, they say they ordered Griffin out.

"Absolutely under no circumstances should any of our students succumb or be victimized by any of our staff. Under no circumstances at all," said Sto-Rox School District Superintendent Terry DeCarbo.

Griffin is accused of Facebook messaging the boyfriend of a 15-year-old female basketball player.

According to the criminal complaint, police say Griffin wrote: "…we share."

The boyfriend responded: "[Expletive] Griff. All mine. "

Then, Griffin allegedly replied: "Either we share… or its all mine. I will send it back when I'm done."

"They approached of a sexual nature," said DeCarbo. "When we realized that that was the content, when we saw and it reviewed what the postings were, we took immediate action to ensure that our students remain safe."

It points to a growing problem at schools, social media interaction between students and teachers. Many schools now have strict policies on social media.

"It's one thing if a teacher is talking to a student about… homework, or a coach saying practice is cancelled. This has nothing... went way beyond that, had nothing to do with their job, went into a very inappropriate area," DeCarbo said.

Griffin is also accused of grabbing the girl repeatedly at basketball practice. He's charged with two counts of harassment.
