Young Man Found Guilty On Several Charges In Brashear H.S. Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - A young man has been convicted of attempted homicide and other counts in a shooting outside of Brashear High School in 2013.

Jurors in Allegheny County returned a verdict in the case of 19-year-old Anjohnito Willet late Tuesday afternoon. It took the jury of seven women and five men nearly 12 hours of deliberations over two days to decide.

Authorities alleged that Willet shot three students outside Brashear High School in November 2013, firing from a wooded area as they left school.

Police said Willet had been attacked in the school in October but refused to press charges, saying "I'll handle this myself."

Prosecutors argued the case was built more on motive than actual evidence.

A key witness, Tyron Harris, told police in an interview the night of the shooting Willet had been the gunman.

In court, however, Harris recanted his statements. But jurors were allowed to hear what Harris told police.

Police: "Tyron, what did you see?"

Harris: "Shooting."

Police: "Who did the shooting?"

Harris: "A.J."

Police: "A.J. was shooting?"

Harris: "Yea."

Police: "Okay. What's his real name?"

Harris: "Anjohnito."

Willet was convicted of one count of attempted homicide but acquitted of two other attempted homicide charges. He was also convicted of multiple counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangering as well as possession of a firearm by a minor.

He will be sentenced on April 25.
