Service Workers Give Strike Notice To Washington Hospital

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A service workers union is threatening to strike at Washington Hospital if a contract dispute isn't resolved soon.

The Service Employees International Union Healthcare Pennsylvania voted Tuesday to strike on Feb. 16 and 17.

The 400 workers include maintenance, housekeeping, dietary and secretarial employees. They account for nearly one-fourth of the hospital's 1,723 employees.

The union's three-year contract with the hospital expired Sunday. The sides have been negotiating since December.

Washington Health System says it looks forward to reaching a "mutually beneficial agreement" with the union and says it is offering "market-competitive" wages and benefits.
