Woman Hit & Killed By Car In Bellevue

BELLEVUE (KDKA) – A woman died after being hit by a car in Bellevue Sunday night.

Around 8:50 p.m. Sunday, 27-year-old Steven Krenke was driving north on Ohio River Boulevard, delivering pizzas for Pizza Milano, when he hit the woman.

Allegheny County Police said Carol Lowery-Tait, 51, of Bellevue, was crossing the street when the Honda hit her. She was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, where she later died.

Businesses and people who drive along Route 65 know how dangerous of a road it can be.

"Especially when there's no sidewalk down here. Some of the parts where the sidewalk is missing and they're just walking in the street, but they have no other place to go," Steve Kawensky said.

Kawensky said oftentimes he sees pedestrians in compromising situations or racing to cross the street to beat traffic.

"They should have a crosswalk for these people here," he said. "Maybe a blinking yellow, yield. That would help."

"I think walkers need to pay more attention and car drivers, there is some fast drivers, but not all," Herblinder Singh said.

Police do not believe the driver in Sunday night's accident was speeding. He was taken for a blood and alcohol test, as per protocol.

Last month, 24-year-old Kent Taylor was hit by a truck less than a mile away. Police believe he was walking in the road at the time.
