Man Arrested For Robbing Ex-Girlfriend, Holding Baby, Assaulting Officer

BANKSVILLE (KDKA) - A man is facing charges for allegedly robbing his ex-girlfriend, grabbing a baby and kicking a police officer.

Police say Brandon Kirkland was upset about a Protection From Abuse order that was being served against him. He went to his ex-girlfriend's home on Strachen Avenue in Banksville.

Eventually, police say Kirkland pushed the woman to the ground, who hit her head on a concrete step. The criminal complaint says that he then ripped her purse away, took her keys and locked himself inside the house.

Kirkland's ex-girlfriend ran to a neighbor's home and called police.

When police arrived at the home, Kirkland kept stalling them saying, "I just need 15-20 minutes."

Eventually, Kirkland exited the home, holding a baby. He tried to walk by the officer saying, "I'm leaving and going to my neighbor's house."

Police blocked him from walking off the porch and were able to force him to sit down. He was still holding the 4-month-old baby at the time.

While sitting on the ground, police say Kirkland kicked one of the officers in the knee, which knocked him to the ground. Another officer was able to grab the baby and police took Kirkland down to the ground.

The baby and her mother were transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Both are expected to be fine.

Kirkland was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with assaulting a police officer, robbery, simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
