Couple Tied Up With Duct Tape & Beaten During Perry South Home Invasion

PERRY SOUTH (KDKA)- A couple is recovering in the hospital after a violent invasion at their house Thursday night.

A 59-year-old man and his 60-year-old wife were winding down the day at their home on Marshall Avenue in Perry South when they heard something.

"They were home in their living room around eight o'clock last night and heard someone coming up their steps. The husband went to the door. About four males rushed in," Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.

At least one of the suspects was armed with a gun. They restrained the couple and then violently attacked them.

"They went about binding the two individuals with duct tape," Toler said. "The male was beaten with a hammer. The female was also beaten, but not with a hammer."

Police believe a purse was taken along with some other items. The woman was able to free herself and call 911 at a neighbor's home.

"The female was able to get out of the duct tape and she went to a neighbor's house where she was able to contact police," Toler said.

KDKA-TV has learned that the male victim worked as a city sanitation worker.

Police also said they're investigating if two vehicles stolen by two armed masked men around 9 p.m. about a mile away in Perry South may be tied to the home invasion.

"Absolutely, they could be connected. We don't know that to be fact just yet, but the investigation will make that determination," Toler said.

Both the man and woman were transported to a local hospital. Both were last listed in serious condition.

So far, no arrests have been made.
