Teenager In Critical Condition After Hazelwood Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a teenager was shot in the city's Hazelwood section late Monday night.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 200 block of Winston Street.

When police arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy on a porch with a gunshot wound to his leg.

"They found a 15-year-old male on a porch. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg and they transported him to [UPMC Mercy Hospital], where he's in critical condition," said Emily Schaffer, assistant PIO for Pittsburgh Public Safety. "We're still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding this. Witnesses heard at least one vehicle speeding away from the scene."

Pittsburgh police don't have any suspects in this shooting. Detectives have interviewed people who heard multiple gunshots and a car speeding away from the scene.

John Harvey lives near the scene of the shooting. He captured video of Pittsburgh Police officers searching for evidence. It shows a gun lying on the ground. On his Facebook page, Harvey posted, "Yes, teen shot outside the house I live in. Tried to help him before police and medics arrived."

Schaffer says investigators are hoping to speak to the teenager.

"I know our detectives have been monitoring his condition at the hospital to see if we can speak to him and get any information," she said.

Police are asking anyone who has any information about this shooting to contact the Violent Crime Unit at (412)-323-7161.
