Route 19 Ramp To McKnight Road Closed For 32 Days

MCCANDLESS (KDKA) – A ramp closure along Route 19 in the North Hills will have an impact on traffic for the next month.

According to PennDOT, the ramp to southbound McKnight Road along Route 19 south will be closed for the next 32 days and detours are in place.

The closure comes as PennDOT is working to repair three bridges that carry McKnight Road over Ingomar Road, Pine Creek and Route 19. The $7.3 million project is expected to be completed in July.

"We are completely re constructing the ramp that carries 19 onto McKnight Road," said PennDOT's Steve Cowan.

For the thousands of motorists that use the ramp, the following detours are in place:

Eastbound Pine Creek Road to Northbound Route 19

  • Continue straight through the intersection at Route 19
  • Bear right onto Blazier Drive
  • Turn left onto McKnight Road
  • Follow to northbound Route 19
  • End detour

Westbound Pine Creek Road to Southbound Route 19

  • Continue straight through the intersection at Route 19
  • Follow Pine Creek Road to Brandt School Road
  • Turn left onto Brandt School Road
  • Turn left onto West Ingomar Road
  • Follow West Ingomar Road back to Route 19
  • End detour

Traffic engineers are monitoring the flow of traffic this week and will adjust the traffic lights as needed. Once the bridge reopens, crews will begin reconstruction of the Pine Creek 19 intersection.

"We're going to be widening the bridge over Pine Creek on the western portion of the roadway," said Cowan.

That will mean closing Pine Creek Road.

"So there will be sometimes when traffic is detoured," Cowan added.

No timetable on when that will begin, but the intersection work will continue into next year.
