Severely Emaciated Dog Given Blood Transfusion, Condition Still Critical
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The dog discovered last week during a drug raid in the Glassport and Port Vue areas remains in critical condition at the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center.
According to the Western Pa. Humane Society, Reggie was given a blood transfusion on Wednesday and is continuing to eat and gain strength.
However, officials say the 3-year-old mastiff/pit bull mix is not yet out of the woods medically.
Reggie was found, severely emaciated, last Friday during suspected drug dealer arrests. Humane officials say he is 30 to 40 pounds underweight.
The PVSEC is handling Reggie's around the clock care, and a dog named Dozer provided the blood for the transfusion.
The staff at PVSEC has even given Reggie a brand new bed.
