Former Steelers QB Kordell Stewart Releases Autobiography

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Former Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart returned to Pittsburgh Saturday to kick off the book tour for his newly released autobiography, "Truth: The Kordell Stewart Story."

Stewart was in town to attend a book signing at the Barnes and Noble stores in South Hills Village and Homestead.

"My autobiography, 'Truth,' is a book that's trying to bring forms of transparency to the fan-base," he said. He went on to say the book is not just about his football career but covers his entire life from his childhood to his current life as a single parent.

In an interview with KDKA, Stewart discussed some of the contents of his book, including his personal life and his ex-wife's appearance on the reality show "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" before their separation.

"Again, it's about transparency for me, because when you're a celebrity, when you're a figure in society that people know and they can't touch you or understand you, I think we get lost when rumors start," he said.

Stewart also discussed his time with the Steelers, working with the Rooney family and the fans in Steeler Nation.

"Overall, man, it's a run that I'll never forget, and I always will be appreciative of it and of Steeler Nation," he said.

He praised the Rooney family's "old-fashioned" way of doing things, mentioning what they mean to the fan base in the city and their special connection with Pittsburgh.

"They made it work however they needed to make it work. Blue collar way, the old-fashioned way, get out there and work hard. Pretty much how the city is in Pittsburgh. Steel-mill type city, family-grown city, generations and generations and generations and generations of family that are still here that hadn't left, and they understand how it is," he said. "So if there's a city that matches their football team in this country the best, I can honestly tell you, Pittsburgh is probably that place that matches the best."

Stewart also acknowledged the recent concussion controversies that have gotten a lot of attention recently, even admitting that he has noticed some effects from concussions he suffered during his career.

"I have my little moments ... because of those concussions," he said.

Overall, however, Stewart praised the NFL for bringing attention to the issue and trying to do something about it.

"The direction that the League is trying to go in, I think, is for the better good of little league kids ... I think the National Football League and that brand and that logo is really trying to set the tone and make parents understand that, 'We still want your kids to play football, look what we're trying to do. We're trying to make the game safe,'" he said.
