Allegheny County Leaders Approve Push For Minimum Wage Increase In Pa.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- Allegheny County Council members approved a push to raise the state minimum's wage to $10.15 an hour.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the council members voted along party lines, with all 10 Democrats approving the measure and all four Republicans rejecting it.

The motion does not change the minimum wage in Allegheny County, but it asks the General Assembly in Harrisburg to increase the state's minimum wage with "deliberate speed."

According to the Tribune-Review, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald has supported efforts to raise the minimum wage to $15 in the next six years.

Back in March, Gov. Tom Wolf increased the minimum wage for state employees to $10.10 an hour. He has also pushed for a statewide increase in minimum wage. So far, a vote has not taken place in Harrisburg.

Just this week, both New York City and Los Angeles approved measures to increase the minimum wage in those cities to $15 per hour. Seattle and San Francisco passed similar measures more than a year ago.
