Greene Co. Family On Mission To Save Daughter, Raise Awareness For Organ Donation

SPRAGGS, Pa. (KDKA) -- April is Organ Donation Awareness Month, and one local family is on a mission to save their daughter and to educate others about life-saving transplants.

Morgan Yoney, 21, from Spraggs, Greene County, is battling Cystic Fibrosis. She had a double lung and liver transplant in 2010, but her body later rejected the lungs.

Now, she's on the transplant list again at UPMC and the situation is dire.

"Without a transplant, I'm not going to be able to survive," Morgan told KDKA's Kym Gable. "I'm only 21 and there's so many things I want to do and... there's just nothing else we can do."

The family took to social media, and the word started to spread the old-fashioned way, too.

The owners of Studio Raw in the North Hills saw Morgan's story and started asking local business owners to display signs asking for O Positive lungs for Morgan.
Morgan is on the conventional transplant list at the hospital, but the family is also looking into direct donations.

"I've just been so thankful for everyone who helped out," said Morgan.

Her mom continues to be amazed by Morgan's attitude through her struggles.

"She has beat the odds so many times and I'm really proud of how she lives every day," she said. "She's happy. She's smiling all the time. She's positive."
