Thief Steals Beef, Wings From Kittanning Butcher Shop

KITTANNING (KDKA) -- The owner of Kevin's Quality Meats in Kittanning said Monday that a thief made off with $100 worth of meat.

Kevin Kronen has owned the shop for 26 years. He explained they have had items stolen in the past, which is why he had cameras installed.

Over the weekend, the cameras captured a suspect trying to get inside the store.

"He was looking through the boxes, probably looking for more expensive cuts of meat, like the ribeyes and things like that, but they were on the bottom," Kronen explained.

The cameras were on, said Kronen, because the Saturday morning snow and rain, activated the motion sensors.

"…that way he couldn't come around any part of the building without having, the cameras were already on him when he came into focus on 'em," he explained.

The video shows the suspect walking around the building, before eventually grabbing a package of beef and a bag of chicken wings.

"Since he couldn't break in, because we're pretty well secured around here, that was a last alternative, at least get something that made it worth his while," Korenen said.

The total value of the meat was just around $100, but the shop owner said he intends to make sure the thief regrets it.

"He's going to suffer a lot more than what I'll be doing," said Kronen, who commented that the suspect could have gotten away with more of his meat inventory. "He was on foot, now if he had a truck or car on anything else, he could have gotten over $8,000. "

Kittanning Police will review the surveillance video to try to determine who the thief is. Anyone with information, should call Kittanning Police.
