Hit-&-Run Driver Arrested After Hitting Pedestrian In Beaver Falls

BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) – A man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in Beaver Falls Sunday has been arrested.

According to police, an SUV hit a man along 7th Avenue in Beaver Falls around 6:30 p.m.

Anthony Darwin, 34, of Pittsburgh, went off the road and hit a tree, a garbage can, two parking meters and a metal pole before hitting the pedestrian.

"It went over to the other lane, hit a tree, hit a pole and then hit the guy," said witness Anthony Palmer. "It dragged the guy about 20 feet down the sidewalk."

The victim was rushed to a nearby baseball field, where he was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was last listed in critical condition.

"I ran over and he had a big gash on the back of his head," said Palmer. "I took my shirt off to stop the bleeding."

The man's brother identified him as Dakota Boniphant.

The SUV involved in the crash took off from the scene and was found about three blocks away.

Witnesses saw Darwin run into a nearby home. He knew the people in the home and hid there until police arrived.

Darwin does not have a valid driver's license and three or four juveniles were in the vehicle with him.

Police do not believe he was impaired and may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

He is facing a list of charges including, driving without a license and aggravated assault by vehicle.
