Pittsburgh Celebrates Penguins' Victory Over Rangers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For the past two seasons, the New York Rangers have eliminated the Penguins from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but not Saturday, and that gave fans a reason to cheer.

Some Pittsburgh Penguins fans could not contain their excitement after Saturday's game.

"This is awesome," shouted one fan, leaving Consol Energy Center. "Ain't nothing like this, this is awesome!"

K. P. Chopra, a fan who lives in Peters Township, wore an older style Penguins jersey, with light blue and white.

"The last Stanley Cup win, that's when we bought these," he said. He believes it was a good luck charm.

"Absolutely! We won didn't we?" He told KDKA's Lisa Washington.

The Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 in game five of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Fans of all ages celebrated. Steve Galati of Greensburg brought his 12-month-old daughter, Elena.

"She is a good luck charm," Galati said.

Many of the fans believed it was the speed of the Penguins that led to the victory.

"Speed," said one fan, "We have speed, we haven't had that much speed, and we do now."

Diana Suba, of McKeesport added, "I think it's their speed. They're younger, their defense...best team."

Some of the fans hope the team gets to show their speed against the Washington Capitals in round two, rather than state rival Philadelphia Flyers.

"You want to beat the best," said one fan, "You want to play the best."

"I do want the Capitals," one fan commented, "We go to the Capitals games when they play the Penguins and the Penguins always win.
