Prince Film 'Purple Rain' Returns To Local Theaters For Limited Time

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The 1984 film "Purple Rain" will return to the big screen this week in honor of the late musician Prince.

Carmike Cinemas and AMC Theatres have scheduled screenings of Prince's Oscar and Grammy award-winning movie at select theaters across the country from Saturday, April 23 through Thursday, April 28.

Locally, screenings can be found at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22 in West Homestead and the Carmike 10 on Fort Couch Road by the South Hills Village mall. The Carmike 15 at the Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg, Pa., will also be showing the film.

The pop music superstar was found dead in his Minneapolis home Thursday morning. An autopsy was completed Friday, but results have not yet been released. Officials did say there were no obvious signs of trauma.

Thursday night, the Homestead-Grays Bridge was lit by purple lights and the Gulf Tower turned purple in honor of the "Purple Rain" star.

  • March 1st & 2nd, 1980 at the Stanley Theater (Fire It Up Tour)
  • November 20, 1981 - Stanley Theater (Prince & The Time - Controversy Tour)
  • October 28, 1988 - Civic Arena (Love & Sexy Tour)
  • September 20, 1997 - Civic Arena (Jam Of The Year Tour)
  • April 14, 2004 - Mellon Arena (Musicology Tour)
