Man Shot, Killed During Apparent South Oakland Home Invasion
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are looking for suspects after a man was shot and killed during an apparent home invasion in South Oakland late Tuesday night.
According to police, officers were called to the 3200 block of Gorman Way around 10:15 p.m.
Police say they found a man dead in the doorway of the home. He had been shot multiple times.
It appears that the victim, Aaron Govostes, 42, opened the door and three suspects barged their way into the home.
A woman and two children, ages 12 and 14, were also in the home at the time, but were not injured.
The victim's mother, Valerie Govostes, said the three men didn't know her son.
The last words she heard her son say were, "Who are you?"
She said a man with shoulder length braids barged into their home asked where the money was and then ran to her son's bedroom.
She grabbed her grandchildren and ran to safety.
"I ran up with them to the attic and we called 911. I was trying to keep my granddaughter quiet so they wouldn't find her and she was screaming and screaming and crying. Both of them were hysterical and I was just afraid that they would come upstairs and hurt them," she said.
Valerie Govostes said after she heard shots everything went quiet and she found her son dead.
Officers found marijuana and cash inside the home, but his mother says her son used it in conjunction with prescription medication for his bi-polar disorder and that he had just cashed his paycheck from his job as a cook.
The suspects ran from the scene before officers arrived.
Police continue to investigate.
