Man Accused Of Trying To Strangle 16-Year-Old With Belt

SOUTH UNION TWP. (KDKA) -- A Uniontown man is facing charges, accused of attempting to strangle a 16-year-old girl with a belt.

Pennsylvania State Police say it happened Sunday morning around 5:30 in a home on Booker Way in South Union Township.

The 16-year-old girl told officers that she was in the kitchen of the home when Michael Adam Pickens, 32, came up behind her and placed a belt around her neck.

As he allegedly began strangling her, the girl's mother and aunt reportedly worked to set her free. They were eventually able to put a stop to the situation.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, harassment and selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages to minors.
