Court Paperwork Indicates Police Have 2nd Suspect In Wilkinsburg Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Investigators may have a second suspect in connection with the Wilkinsburg mass shooting in March that killed five adults and an unborn baby, according to court paperwork filed to have an upcoming hearing moved.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office filed a motion earlier this week to have a preliminary hearing moved for several suspects facing drug charges.

The motion reads, "Defendant Robert Thomas and Defendant Cheron Shelton are suspects in a homicide currently being investigated by the Allegheny County Police."

It goes on to say, "Because of the circumstances of that case, it is believed that they are a danger to the community at large."

Shelton and Thomas, along with two others, were scheduled to appear before a local district judge in Wilkinsburg on Friday for a hearing in a 2013 drug case.

But the District Attorney's Office says they want the hearing moved to the Allegheny County Courthouse over security concerns. They say in the motion that they'd also like the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office to provide extra security screening for the proceeding.

Thomas was named a suspect in the Wilkinsburg shooting last month.

At a bond hearing in April, a detective testified that Thomas had been informed that he's a suspect in the Wilkinsburg shootings, and was a flight risk. The judge revoked Thomas' bond, and said he was a danger to the community.

Shelton had been questioned several times in the shootings.

Police have not made any arrests in the shooting.

Last month, Thomas, Shelton and the two other suspects were arrested on various unrelated charges, including possession of narcotics with intent to deliver and receiving stolen property in the form of firearms.
