Vigil Held For Man Burned In Pipeline Explosion

SALEM TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Just a few weeks ago, one home was destroyed and three others damaged when a pipeline exploded in New Alexandria.

Sunday night, people in the community came together at the New Alexandria United Methodist Church to pray for their neighbor James Baker, who was burned on over 75 percent of his body. They were also seeking answers as to what caused the explosion.

Pastor Rhea Summit led the service.

"The difficult times our community has faced brought us all to our knees, as we take some personal time this evening for prayer," she said.

Martha Bowman and her husband came to pray.

"We've been through so much. That was a horrible explosion. It was terrible," she said.

The service also brought people seeking answers. Many are uncomfortable with not knowing what caused the blast.

"What makes this most concerning is not knowing what is happening under the ground with the pipes, and the folks are really anxious with the situation," said Pastor Summit.
