Firefighter Injured While Battling Westmoreland County House Fire

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A family managed to escape their burning home in Westmoreland County Wednesday morning, but a firefighter was injured.

When the smoke and flames were finally out, part of the home had burned to the ground.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a home in the 500 block of Pleasant View Drive in Washington Township around 6 a.m.

The family discovered fire inside an attached garage. They ran outside and quickly called 911.

When crews arrived just a short time later, the fire had already spread to part of the house.

To make matters worse, there was a slight delay in getting water on the flames because of limited hydrants in the area.

As a result, six water tankers were called to the scene.

Once the water was flowing, crews were able to get the fire under control. In fact, they were even able to salvage an addition on the house.

Crews said the flames may have been sparked by an electrical problem.

Although everyone made it out, medics on the scene were busy dealing with a firefighter.

He had an elevated blood pressure and was eventually taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital to be checked out. There is no word on his condition.
