3 Injured In Washington County Police Chase Crash

CROSS CREEK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) –Three people were injured after a police chase ended with a crash in Washington County early Tuesday morning.

According to emergency officials, the accident happened near the intersection of Lynn Portal and Old Ridge Roads in Cross Creek Township around 4:30 a.m.

Officers first initially attempted to pull the vehicle over on Lynn Portal Road for an equipment violation. However, the suspects took off at a high rate of speed, went off the road and crashed into a tree.

"As it came down around the curve, he lost control striking several trees and rotating around," State Police Lt. Dennis Bartoe said.

Rachel Phillips, 19, of Washington, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with serious injuries.

Timothy Romenetti, 19, of Hickory, was also ejected and was not wearing a seatbelt. He also suffered serious injuries and was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Meanwhile, Shea Carroll, 19, of Washington, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Washington Hospital. Carroll was wearing a seatbelt.

Lynn Portal Road was shut down in the area for most of the morning while state police did measurements and cleared the clutter-filled roadway.

Chuck Monticello lives nearby and said speed limit signs on the road keep disappearing and that a lot of young people speed.

"I'll bet you I've seen 60 on this road and of course, there's a lot of farm equipment in the country. You never know when a cow might be out somewhere, it's a bad situation," Monticello said.

Police are in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the car.
