Thomas Cheeks, 40, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene.  Police say the suspects fatally shot a family dog before shooting Cheeks.

“We believe there were two males who entered through the rear entrance of the home,” Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. “We have a male in the home who has been fatally shot in the chest. So, this is a home invasion and homicide investigation.”

Authorities says the victim’s wife and 14-year-old son were home at the time of the incident, but they did not witness the shooting. They were not hurt.
