Speed, Alcohol Suspected After Van Veers Into Pa. Lake; 3 Dead

PRESTON, Pa. (AP) - Police believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the deaths of three summer camp workers killed when a driver lost control of their van and landed in Lake Como in northeast Pennsylvania.

Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards describes the victims as seasonal workers from Camp Shoshanim in Lakewood.

She says that two men and a women were killed while two others escaped from the van and survived. They are being treated at hospitals after the 12:50 a.m. crash Thursday.

Edwards says the drive is among the dead.

Lake Como is about 40 miles northeast of Scranton. Rescuers included firefighters and a dive team.

The operator of the camp did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press.
