LAWRENCE COUNTY (KDKA) — Authorities are investigating after a worker was struck by a freight train in Lawrence County Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday near Cherry Street and Industrial Road in New Castle. The worker was struck by a CSX train and suffered what New Castle firefighters and paramedics call a “traumatic” injury. The worker was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

CSX issued a statement Sunday saying that a contractor was injured while working on CSX property, but they did not provide any further details.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, and his current condition is unknown.
