Water Main Break Causes Traffic Problems Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A water main break caused some traffic problems for hockey fans on their way to CONSOL Energy Center Wednesday evening.

According to Pittsburgh's Chief Operations Officer Guy Costa, the 20-inch line broke around 7 p.m. at Diamond Street and Forbes Avenue downtown.

Crews shut off the water shortly after it happened.

The break shut down water service to the courthouse and a few other nearby buildings.

Costa says traffic patterns in the area of the break will be different for a few days while repairs are made. He says it will have an effect on Penguins' game traffic Wednesday night.

"This is probably the worst time to have it with the hockey game going on. There will be some issues with traffic after the hockey game, so what we'll do is work with police to make sure that the motorists get around this area," said Costa. So, it looks like we're going to be here for a while dealing with this situation."

He did not provide a timetable for when repairs will be completed.

County officials say the Allegheny County Family Law Center building on Ross Street will be closed Thursday due to the break. All hearings scheduled there will be rescheduled and parties will be contacted with new dates.

But all court business scheduled in any other location will proceed on Thursday, including Family and Juvenile Court locations , officials say in a press release.
