Burglary, Car Theft Suspect Arrested After Eluding Police For Days

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) – A Harrison Township man accused of burglary, car theft, assaulting his mother and retail theft was arrested in West Mifflin Wednesday night.

According to police, Jacob Fisher, 20, of Harrison Township, was involved in a police chase earlier this week that started in Tarentum and ended in a fiery crash. He is also wanted in connection with an assault in a home on Fifth Avenue in Tarentum on Sunday.

Around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Walmart in West Mifflin for a report of a retail theft and assault.

When they arrived, a loss prevention officer informed them that the suspect, later identified as Fisher, had gotten away after a struggle.

Surveillance video shows Fisher attempting to steal eight CDs from the store. When he exited the store, a loss prevention officer stopped Fisher and escorted him to the office.

When Fisher realized police were being called, he allegedly ran toward the door. A struggle ensued between Fisher, the loss prevention officer and a manager, which spilled into the lobby.

At that time, Fisher allegedly kicked the manager in the chest, ran out of the store, hopped over a fence and ran down a hill.

Around 7 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Bost Drive for a report of a suspicious person.

When officers found Fisher, he gave police a false name before admitting to being responsible for the Walmart incident. He was taken into custody and gave another false name to police while being questioned at the West Mifflin Police Station.

This wasn't Fisher's first encounter with police on Wednesday.

Fisher was spotted by police earlier in the day and he jumped into the Allegheny River to get away. It happened near the Allegheny Technology Plant in Harrison Township.

Eventually, police spotted him escaping through a drainage pipe. They thought they had him trapped, until they saw maps of the area.

Then, Fisher turned up at a nearby gas station. An employee recognized him immediately, but Fisher was able to flee.

He is facing a list of charges including, simple assault, receiving stolen property, retail theft, and driving without a license.

Fisher has preliminary hearings scheduled for later this month.
