Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival Offers Something For Everyone

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Despite the rain this morning, the annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival opened today.

From art to food, music and other entertainment, there's something for everyone.

About 500,000 people are expected to come to Gateway Center, Point State Park and the Cultural District for the event.

The festival is a tradition 57 years in the making that exemplifies the mission of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

"Which is to make sure that we continue to transform the City of Pittsburgh through arts and use that as an economic drive to make our region all the greater," Shaunda Miles, of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, said.

The festival features all kinds of art like Carin Mincemoyer's dandelion installation outside of Gateway 4.

"They're a pioneer species, so they will move into areas where nothing else will grow. They'll send down their taproots, loosen up the soil and bring in nutrients and then other species can move in," Mincemoyer said.

Photographer Dave DiCello's work will also be featured.

"If you already have a name in the city, people will come down and see your work and meet you and see you and it's always fun to meet the person behind the lens," DiCello said.

DiCello is known for capturing some impressive beauty shots of the city in all conditions. So, he's hoping the stormy weather reputation of the arts festival holds off this year.

"Hopefully, that doesn't happen again because if I'm down here, I can't shoot that," he said.

In the coming days, an eclectic mix of musicians will also take the stage. Reggae fusion band Michael Franti and Spearhead kick things off tonight.

The arts festival runs for the next 10 days, wrapping up on June 12.
