Beaver Murder Suspect Found In Kentucky, Told Officers 'Just Shoot & Kill Me'

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man accused of killing his girlfriend in Beaver County was arrested in Kentucky early Tuesday morning.

Edward Baker Jr. is in police custody after 30-year-old Addaleigh Amelia Huzyak was found dead in her apartment in Beaver on Monday.

The manhunt for Baker, Huzyak's ex-boyfriend, began immediately. KDKA has learned that two coworkers of Bakers' were the ones who called police.

According to court papers, Baker failed to show up for work at the Sunoco A-Plus on Monday. The suspect's father stopped into the gas station, allegedly telling the two employees that his son was on the run after killing his girlfriend and to not tell anyone.

Police say Baker also left behind a suicide note at his father's home where he lives.

According to Winchester Police in Kentucky, officers tracked Baker's cell phone to a rest stop along Interstate 64. Initially, he was asleep in his car when officers approached and tried to apprehend him.

Baker said he wouldn't give himself up and told officers, "Just shoot and kill me."

"Based on the fact that we had a suicide note here and the fact that we engaged him down there, you can speculate all you want that he was trying to do a suicide by police officer," Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Eric Hermick said.

A struggle ensued as an officer tried to get him out of the car. However, Baker put the car in reverse and dragged the officer for a few feet. Baker got away, nearly hit two other officers and got back on the interstate.

"He tried to run over a few of their officers. We're being told they initiated gunfire to defend themselves, striking his vehicle. He continued to flee," Lt. Hermick said.

A short chase ensued and he was eventually taken into custody.

"He was on the phone with us and his family while the police cars were chasing him and said, look you gotta pull over because it's not gonna end well for anybody if you don't," Lt. Hermick said.

He is currently being held in the Clark County Jail in Kentucky.

Police did not find any weapons on him, but they are working on obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle.

The cause of Huzyak's death has not been released.

The community is devastated by the loss. In front of Huzyak's apartment, her mother has written a message that reads: "He may have taken you from us, but nothing will ever take your spirit from our hearts."

Baker has been a registered sex offender since 2013 under Megan's Law.
