Surprise Baby Shower Held For Nearly 40 Military Moms-To-Be

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – They sacrifice so much and today, dozens of military moms-to-be were showered with gifts and surprises.

They were invited to a baby shower, hosted by the March of Dimes and the Pennsylvania Masons.

From balloons to baskets filled with baby supplies, the 171st Refueling Wing at Pittsburgh International Airport was transformed into the perfect place for a baby shower.

Nearly 40 military moms and dads-to-be packed the room.

"It's exciting to hear everybody, when they're due and what they're having and advice they have to give to me, if it's their second or third child, so I'm excited," Jamaya Phipps said.

The expectant parents shared stories with each other and learned a lot about pregnancy and newborn health.

The big highlight was that there were plenty of gifts to go around.

The parents were all surprised with strollers, infant and toddler car seats, baby monitors, $400 gift cards from Buy Buy Baby and a whole lot more.

"I haven't had my baby shower yet, so this will help out a lot. You know, take things off the registry that I don't need or help me decide what I do need or whatnot," Phipps said.

This was the 29th baby shower hosted by the March of Dimes, the Pennsylvania Masons and other sponsors.

The idea is to eliminate some of the anxiety and concern for families that have given so much to our country.

"When you're starting your family, you want it to be a happy time. You don't want it to be a stressful time and if this is something that we can do to kind of eliminate some of the stress and make it happy, that's what we want to do. These are people defending our country," March of Dimes Trustee Colonel Harris Brooks said.
